Genmanipulation 2006-11-27 12:27:53 How to manipulate a plant in 7 steps: 1. The first step of genetic manipulation is the most difficult. You have to find the right gene, but after that it’s easy. 2. For finding the right gene you have to use the correct tools. With an invisible cutter (not bigger than the gene itself) the wanted attributes are cut out of the gene. The gene-cutters are complex chemical substances: about 300 different exists for the scientists use. 3. The gene pieces are now put together with something similar to glue. Then, the new combination has to react with bacteria. 4. The bacteria does not harm the gene combination – contra wise with the increase of the bacteria, the gene also increases. The bacteria is now part of the predisposition. (Erbanlage) 5. The gene is now ready for inserting in the favoured plant. The method used for is called “gene cannon”. The used tools are the same like in step 2 and 3. 6. But is the plant now manipulated? To check this, the plant also gets a special marking gene. It’s for example a gene which increases the resistance against an antibiotic. When brought in react with the antibiotic only the manipulated plants will survive. 7. After growing up the plants will put in fields to start the right tests. For example if the new species is really better than the old one. Source: http://www.bba.de/veranst/futour/futour_2.pdf
